Known to many simply as “Prof”, Conrad Johnson was perhaps the most widely recognized and beloved music educator in Houston. Highly respected as a versatile, passionate saxophonist and leader of The Conrad Johnson Jazz Heritage Orchestra, the octogenarian for over 50 years was a major force in shaping the Houston sound, a rich synthesis of down home Texas blues and sophisticated jazz.

Conrad Johnson lead professional bands for four decades, and his most recent, has been delighting Houston audiences for two decades and has become a genuine Houston institution.

The band, which is comprised of musicians accomplished in their own right, will entertain with renditions from such notables as Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan, B.B. King, and Bobby Blue Bland.

The jazz and rhythm and blues greats that he has shared the spotlight with include, but are not limited to: Najee, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Sample, Hubert Laws, Lou Rawls, Grover Washington, Jr., Dizzy Gillespie, Arnett Cobb, Roy Hamilton, and Johnny Nash.

The Conrad Johnson Jazz Heritage Orchestra performs regularly at jazz clubs, galas, and formal dances in the Greater Houston area. A 3 to 8 piece jazz ensemble, as well as a youth ensemble is also available for smaller performances.
